Dr. Guy Nehrenz is a professor of
health science and
executive associate dean
for the
College of Allied Health and Nursing at Nova Southeastern
University in Fort Lauderdale Florida. He is also the founding and
managing editor for the
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences
and Practice.
With over 30 years in healthcare and education, Dr. Nehrenz has held a number
of positions in varying markets. In his early
career, he was an ICU respiratory therapist who was crossed trained
as a critical care specialist (an interdisciplinary program attended
by nurses and therapists) at a major Phoenix, Arizona medical
center. As a specialist, he handled emergencies in the intensive
care unit and also helped train medical residents. He later attended
a training program in the anesthesia department to acquire special
procedures skills.
Dr. Nehrenz soon moved on to head up a special procedures lab in the Veterans
Administration Medical Center. At this time, he began working part
time as a
flight therapist for the United States largest air medical transport program.
After moving to AirEvac, he was considered to be the first full
time flight therapist in the U.S., and later became the operations
manager for the entire operation to include 14 aircraft and several
bases of operation.
During this time, he also attended the first training program for
neonatal ECMO (perfusion) specialists in the state of Arizona.
Following this, he moved to a position as administrative director of
medical education and research for the largest health care provider
in the state of Arizona where he was administratively responsible
for all medical residency programs, a poison control center, and the
department of toxicology, as well as all research in the
organization.
Later, Dr. Nehrenz became the assistant dean of a medical school and
developed family medicine residency programs while overseeing 3rd
and 4th year medical student education. He then moved on to the
position he currently holds.
Dr. Nehrenz moved to
Florida in June 2002 to start the Doctor of Health Science online program.
Following this, he became the Founding Chair for the Department of Health Science
and worked with an extraordinary team to build the Bachelor of Health
Science and the Master of Health Science online programs as well as the entry level
vascular sonography on-campus hybrid program in conjunction with Prof. Terry Case.
In January of 2003, Dr's. Nehrenz
and Davis developed the Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and
Practice with the assistance of Prof. Steve Cohen and a very talented editorial
board. Dr. Nehrenz took on the role of Managing Editor and Publisher.
The journal is read in 118 countries.
Dr. Nehrenz was also on the editorial and review boards for the Internet
Journal of Academic Physician Assistants, The Internet Journal of Rescue
and Disaster Medicine, The Internet Journal of Alternative Medicine and
Medical Education Online.
Dr. Nehrenz was promoted to Associate Dean in April of 2004 for the
College of Allied Health and Nursing while maintaining the position of
Chair.
He has an extensive background in research and research administration,
specializing in methodology and design. He is a grant reviewer and
research adviser as well as the point person for clinical trials. Dr. Nehrenz is an Associate Member in Sigma XI
Scientific Research Society, in the areas of health science, research
and education. He has also held a variety of grants and sponsored
projects including the study
of TB in firefighter, development of a surgical residency in Alaska, development of
rural medicine residencies and other related projects in family medicine
residency training, and the development of 3 pediatric clinics for the
underserved, using tobacco tax grant money. |
