Dr. Nehrenz moved to
Florida in June 2002 to start the Doctor of Health Science online program.
Following this, he became the Founding Chair for the Department of Health Science
and worked with an extraordinary team to build the Bachelor of Health
Science and the Master of Health Science online programs as well as the entry level
vascular sonography on-campus hybrid program in conjunction with Prof. Terry Case.
In January of 2003, Dr's. Nehrenz
and Davis developed the Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and
Practice with the assistance of Prof. Steve Cohen and a very talented editorial
board. Dr. Nehrenz took on the role of Managing Editor and Publisher.
The journal is read in 118 countries.
Dr. Nehrenz was also on the editorial and review boards for the Internet
Journal of Academic Physician Assistants, The Internet Journal of Rescue
and Disaster Medicine, The Internet Journal of Alternative Medicine and
Medical Education Online.
Dr. Nehrenz was promoted to Associate Dean in April of 2004 for the
College of Allied Health and Nursing while maintaining the position of
Chair.
Prior to this, he was an
independent medical education consultant in Phoenix, AZ.
With over 30 years in Health Care, Administration, and Medical
Education, he has held a variety of positions, including, Assistant
Regional Dean and Assistant Professor for Medical Education, Assistant
Clinical Professor and Associate Director of Family Medicine - Regional
Educator for Medical Education and Family Medicine, at Kirksville
College of Osteopathic Medicine.
At Samaritan Health System in Phoenix , he was Administrative Director
of Medical Education and Research, Director of Research and, Administrator of the
Poison Control Center and Medical Toxicology, and Administrator for the
Phoenix Fire Department Health Center contract.
Early in his career he was a Trauma Flight Therapist for Samaritan
AirEvac where he flew over a million miles and treated 1600 neonatal,
obstetric and trauma patients in the air. He was later promoted to
Director of the Flight Respiratory Therapy Department and started the
first full time flight respiratory therapy program in the country.
Later, he was again promoted to Manager of Operations where he was
responsible for the safety and logistical operations of the program to
include 12 aircraft and over 200 crew. He
was also on the safety and disaster board for the Sky Harbor Aviation
Administration and a Governor appointed member of the Phoenix Fire
Advisory Board.
He has an extensive background in research and research administration,
specializing in methodology and design.
Dr. Nehrenz is an Associate Member in Sigma XI
Scientific Research Society, in the areas of health science, research
and education. He has also held a variety of grants and sponsored
projects including the study
of TB in firefighter, development of a surgical residency in Alaska, development of
rural medicine residencies and other related projects in family medicine
residency training, and the development of 3 pediatric clinics for the
underserved using tobacco tax money.
